Expectant parents’ classes
The Stork’s Nest in the evenings organizes regular expectant parents’ classes in small groups. Attendance at four classes means that you are qualified for the family birth, and the fact is acknowledged by affixing a mark to your maternity passport. Classes are held in Latvian and last for approximately two hours each.
Topics:
The course of natural birth
Delivery is physically, mentally, and emotionally charged moment in the life of the expectant parents. Over this class the midwife explains the course of natural birth complete with innate ancillary mechanisms that lead up to the birth of healthy neonate. Particular emphasis is put on identification of the mother’s inner strength and facilitation of bonding between the mother and her child. The class is conducted by midwives Rudīte Brūvere or Astrīda Millere.
The partner’s practical assistance during labor/delivery
To attend this class young parents are recommended to change into sporty attire, as all delivery positions and physical support techniques are tried in practice on fitness balls and gym mats. This class means encouragement to the fathers to-be, as they have their own special role during labor and delivery, and there are so many opportunities to assist the neonate to be born. Classes are conducted by midwives Dina Ceple and Aiva Zeidmane.
Breastfeeding
Though being a natural process, upon the first encounter the breastfeeding tends to raise questions. The goal of our lecture is to theoretically prepare the parents of the baby for the breastfeeding processes by timely explaining contingent problems and solutions thereof. The couple is particularly recommended to visit this class together, as, according to the experience collected at the Stork’s Nest young fathers often appear to be the ones who do not lose the courage and ask for support and assistance in case the mother encounter any breastfeeding problems postpartum. The class is conducted by psychologist and breastfeeding promotion specialist Diāna Zande.
If the baby is born and you nevertheless feel that theoretical knowledge requires some practical support you are welcome to individual consultation on breastfeeding with your baby postpartum.
The newborn care and handling
The newborn care is the area that is replenished with new knowledge every decade or so. And sometimes when we are quite confused the right pattern can be copied from the wildlife - maternal body heat and loving care are much more important than blind following any pre-set theoretical prescriptions. At the Stork’s Nest you can master contemporary and natural childcare by using ecologic skincare products, cotton and disposable nappies, various devices and techniques for carrying the baby as well as simple approach to clothing and upbringing issues.
The art of the right clothing, carrying and changing of nappies, or the baby handling will contribute to your feeling of security when holding the baby for the first time.
The class is conducted by pediatric nurse, masseuse Ivonna Daina Gruzdiņa or psychologist and breastfeeding promotion specialist, the mother of five Diāna Zande.
In addition to the above four classes we offer also classes on postpartum adaptation and preparation for welcoming the next addition to the family.
